The Winter 2012 Rush Season has finally come to a close. We held three mass meetings, and members of the fraternity explained the different components of our organization, as well as share why they hold the Pi so close to their hearts. A new and innovative type of event was implemented this semester: our Progressive was combined with a Noodles & Co. fundraiser night in order to raise funds and get to know our Rushees at the same time. Another successful Scavenger Hunt took place on campus, and a Trivia Night tested the knowledge of our potential future Brothers. Speed Interviews allowed for further Brother-Rushee bonding and laughing. Finally, the slightly-intimidating Formal Interviews allowed potential new members to show off their serious sides.
Tonight, we vote! Please try to control your anxiety as you wonder who will be offered a Bid to become an Initiate of Phi Sigma Pi Beta Alpha.
Bid Night is tomorrow night at Bro House- hope to see you there!

Fall Memory: Walk of the Dead
During our previous fall semester, Phi Sigma Pi teamed up with the Michigan Zombie Club to support Food Gatherers and have a creepy time doing it. Around fifty people became zombies for the night and stalked campus to promote zombie awareness and raise money for the food bank. The Walk of the Dead was even featured on Wolv TV! Please enjoy the following clip as well as some scary photos. Thanks, PR and Fellowship Committees for putting on such a wonderful event.

Winter 2012 Rush!
A quick word about rush from our Rush Advisor, Alex Melidis:
Hello everybody! Here is the skinny on Rush Month: The first month of every semester our fraternity has a recruitment process to attain new members to keep our fraternity strong. We take part in student organization festivals, we have mass meetings, and we have a couple of brother events for prospective members to get to know current brothers. This semester we are taking part in two student organization festivals: Winterfest and Professional Fraternity Council Festival. We then have three mass meetings in various areas of campus for those who take interest from the festivals and for students who have heard about us through flyering and the like. After the mass meetings we have three brother events, each standing for a leg of our fraternity's tripod: Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship. We do different events every semester to keep things interesting! After the brother events we have speed interviews, these are a quick one-on-one interview between brothers and prospective members, and are a good way to get to know interesting things about each other. The final event is the formal interview. Each prospective member individually goes in front of a panel and talks about skills, qualities and reasons for joining the fraternity. After all this is done, the fraternity votes on each "rushee" and decides whether or not he or she would make a good fit for the fraternity. And voila! That is the rush process. I hope that helped. If anyone has any questions or would like to rush, please don't hesitate to email me: akme@umich.edu.

Farewell, Friends!
Happy New Year from PSP Beta Alpha! As our Winter 2012 semester begins, we have to say goodbye to five brothers- two are graduating seniors who we will miss very much, and three are lucky souls who get to study abroad and escape the chilly Michigan winter.
Michelle Wilensky will be attending Cornell University for law in the fall! As a Brother, she was an amazing leadership chair.
Sarina Khan is currently applying to med schools and completing her EMT training. She was the Initiate Advisor for the 2010-2011 school year and the External Secretary for the Fall 2011 semester, and was a wonderful Brother to have.
Holly Stehlin is off to Germany! She will be overseas for six months. Her first two will be spent with a host family, where she will have 16 and 19 year old host brothers, in a small village called Horb. Then she will be studying at the University of Tübingen in Tübingen, Germany.
Kate Hertler has this message for her Bros: I am going to live in Barcelona for four months with a host family, and I'll be taking international studies courses at a local university. I'm planning on traveling to cities within Spain, but also to Florence, Paris, and Vienna because I have friends studying abroad there! I hope to make it to a futbol game and of course enjoy the nightlife in Barcelona. I'll also be taking lots of pictures and putting them on the blog, so bros check it out if you'd like!
